Teams to design personal health records to help consumers manage care
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, December 15, 2006
A new program will design and test ideas for how consumers can use information technology to better manage their health and navigate the healthcare system, according to a release from the healthcare philanthropic and strategy firm the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). The $4.1 million Project HealthDesign initiative is a joint effort by the RWJF and the California HealthCare Foundation.
Under Project HealthDesign, eight multidisciplinary teams will build new tools that advance the field of personal health record (PHR) systems. Teams will work together to design and test a suite of PHR applications. Some of the PHR tools include those that remind a patient to take medications and provide tailored decision prompts to help people adhere to treatment regimens for diabetes or pain therapy. The tools are also being designed to transmit data to providers-such as blood pressure readings or exercise levels-collected from self-testing and biomonitoring.
