Those looking for medical info online do not check sources

E-Health Trend Watch, December 22, 2006

Only 15% of the 113 million American adults who search the Internet for information on health topics always check the source and date of the information that they find to assess its quality, according to a survey released by the Washington, DC-based Pew Internet Project. Three-quarters of health seekers say they check the source and date "only sometimes," "hardly ever," or "never." This translates to about 85 million Americans gathering health advice online without examining the quality indicators of the information that they find.
