Congress stops Medicare physician payment cut
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, December 14, 2006
The American Medical Association (AMA) is praising the efforts of Congress in averting the 5% Medicare physician payment cut planned for 2007, according to a press release from the AMA.
The Congressional action will keep payment rates at the 2006 level, and also sets aside funding to avert cuts in 2008.
"If the 2007 Medicare cut had occurred as planned, nearly half of physicians told the AMA the cut would force them to limit the number of new Medicare patients into their practice," said Cecil B. Wilson, MD, chair of the board of trustees of the AMA, in the press release. "Today's action provides an important but temporary reprieve for seniors and the physicians who care for them."
