Man threatens staff with possible gun
Healthcare Security Weekly, December 11, 2006
Police arrested a man at City Hospital in Birmingham, England after he threatened staff with what was thought to be a gun, according to The Independent.
Police went to the hospital December 6 and used a Taser to arrest the man, who threatened to shoot staff unless he was given drugs. The newspaper said police refused to confirm reports that the man took two nurses hostage, but a hospital spokeswoman said staff managed to get away from him and call security. "Security did the right thing by retaining the man in a room," she told the newspaper.
Staff evacuated the hospital ward until the man was taken into custody.
