Consumers value quality information over cost data

Consumers value quality information over cost data when it comes to making key decisions about treatment options and physicians, according to a study by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). Eighty-six percent of consumers report searching for quality information compared to 47% who search for cost of treatment information. Quality information also ranked highest when selecting a hospital or clinic for treatment.

Other key findings include the following:

"Even though consumers see quality data as the key factor when making their decision, it is critical to note that other types of information are important to consider as well," Scott P. Serota, CEO of BCBSA, said in a press release.
