Norovirus popping up in Wisconsin facilities
LTC Liability Monitor, December 4, 2006
Wisconsin is seeing a spike in norovirus illness as another nursing home temporarily closed its doors to visitors last week after some residents experienced symptoms of the illness, reported The Chippewa (WI) Herald. Residents in a neighboring nursing home also recently suffered symptoms of norovirus, including general gastroenteritis, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Two confirmed norovirus cases were found at an area hospital. About 14 employees of the affected facilities also have symptoms of the virus, according to officials. The facilities are taking precautions to prevent the spread of the disease, including frequent hand-washing with soap and warm water, according to the Herald.
