Video surveillance catches resident neglect
LTC Liability Monitor, December 4, 2006
Hidden cameras installed in a Queens, New York, nursing home have led to the arrest of nine people for resident neglect, reported http://www.wcbstv.com. An investigation by the state attorney general's office said among those arrested at the nursing home were the medical director, two nurses, and six nurses aides. Footage in one resident's room showed neglectful care over a five-week period, according to reports. The resident did not receive required motion therapy, was not repositioned or given adequate incontinence care, and often didn't eat because she was not helped with meals. The resident's medical record was subsequently falsified to indicate the contrary, reported www.wcbstv.com.
