Staff evacuated before roof collapse
LTC Liability Monitor, December 4, 2006
Heavy snow collapsed a nursing home cafeteria roof in central Illinois last week, but caused no serious injuries, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. A quick-thinking staff member heard the structure begin to fall and evacuated dozens of people before the collapse, a fire department official said. Four people were injured and taken to an area hospital, reportedly with cuts and bruises. A large portion of the approximately 170 people, including residents and staff, were in the building at the time of the collapse. All of the residents of the nursing home were quickly accounted for and moved to another building in the complex, according to the Sun-Times.
