CMS makes HOPD payment information available
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, November 30, 2006
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued payment information last week for 81 services performed in hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs), according to a press release from CMS.
President Bush and his administration said their goal of pricing transparency will allow patients to make a better educated decision on where to receive their healthcare services.
CMS issued payment information for ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) on August 21.
The HOPD payment information includes the facility costs associated with the same 61 procedure codes included in the ASC payment information. The information provides service volume, and payment data broken out nationally, by state, and by county.
The information also includes an additional list of 20 high-utilization procedures performed in HOPDs.
