Study: OT improves function in dementia patients

Rehab Private Practice Alert, November 22, 2006

A recent study by Dutch researchers found that community-based OT helps improve function in patients suffering from dementia, according to the Psychiatric Times.

In the randomized study of 135 community-living patients, participants attended ten sessions of therapy over five weeks. The results showed that the therapy increased process skills and reduced the need for assistance in daily activities.

Caregivers also received benefits from the therapy because of a reduced burden on them, reported the Psychiatric Times.

The Dutch researchers used the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills test to measure achievements in the patients.
