Man dons scrubs and steals from hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, November 20, 2006
A man dressed in green scrubs entered Hanover Hospital in Pennsylvania earlier this month, pretending to be an employee, and roamed inside for more than three hours before stealing various items, reported the York Daily Record.
Police arrested a 24-year-old man the following day and charged him with burglary, criminal trespass, and theft. Police allege the man entered the hospital about 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, and walked through secure
areas on four floors, including operating room areas. The hospital's security director told police that security straps on several locked cabinets were forcibly removed and hospital supplies taken.
Police also said the man gained access to a secure area, which required a pass card to gain entry, and rummaged through the male employees' lockers. Hospital officials were reviewing security video to determine how the man gained access. Police said the man told three housekeeping employees who spotted him that he was a new hire.
