Hospital implements wireless x-ray technology

E-Health Trend Watch, November 17, 2006

Harris Methodist Fort Worth (TX) Hospital has implemented four wireless x-ray machines to improve processing time in trauma cases and other instances in which time is of the essence. Shimadzu Corp. of Japan creates the wireless units, which cost the hospital $800,000.

The portable machines take an x-ray, which users can see on any computer connected to the hospital system, eliminating the need to wait to download an image. The device connects to the hospital's digital picture-archiving system to store the x-rays. The device also uses a quarter of the radiation that conventional x-ray machines use. Other benefits include its compact size and mobility.
