CMS issues transmittals on caps and documentation
Rehab Private Practice Alert, November 15, 2006
CMS released two separate transmittals last week in order to clarify the therapy caps and Medicare's documentation guidelines.
Transmittal 1106 involved the therapy caps and addressed the fact that the exceptions process was set up for 2006 only. The transmittal also increased the cap limit to $1,780 for PT and SLP services combined and $1,780 for OT services in 2007.
Transmittal 60 makes further changes to Medicare's documentation guidelines, clarifying some questions lingering from Transmittal 47, which was released in February. In the most recent transmittal, CMS cleared up some definitions, as well as questions about the progress reports and treatment encounter notes.
