Bomb threats test security at two hospitals
Healthcare Security Weekly, November 13, 2006
Security plans were recently tested at two hospitals that had to deal with bomb scares.
In Provo, UT, the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center was in lockdown for about two hours on November 4 after someone phoned police and told them he had placed explosives inside the hospital, reported the Deseret News. Police alerted the hospital and officials locked all doors at the facility, while still allowing access into the emergency room. Hospital workers, along with canine units, searched the hospital but did not find any explosives.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis in Tennessee also experienced a bomb threat after an altercation in late October, reported WMCTV. A male visitor knocked over a nurse in a hospital hallway. Several bomb threats were then phoned in shortly after the man left the hospital. The entire fourth floor was evacuated until a bomb-sniffing dog gave the all clear.
