Family member sues facility and medical director
LTC Liability Monitor, November 6, 2006
A Pikeville, KY, nursing home and its medical director were cited this week in a wrongful death suit, according to the Appalachian News-Express in Pikeville. The wife of a resident claims that the facility and its contracted medical director negligently caused the death of her husband last year. The suit alleges that both defendants breached their duty to provide reasonable care to the resident, who died from an infection after his leg was amputated. During treatment at the facility, the resident's left heel became "seriously infected," requiring an emergency amputation of his left lower leg. The infection that originated in the resident's heel spread throughout his body, causing severe infection, including sepsis, reported the News-Express.
