Sexual harassment suit settled in New York

LTC Liability Monitor, November 6, 2006

A New York nursing home agreed to pay $250,000 to settle a lawsuit claiming sexual harassment a few weeks ago, reported the North Country Gazette in Chestertown, NY. A former speech pathologist at the facility filed the lawsuit a year ago, and court records indicate that at least a dozen other women may have been involved. The employees alleged that they were subjected to "offensive propositioning and degrading comments regarding oral sex, masturbation, and their physical appearance," according to court files. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said that when the speech pathologist complained to the administration about the alleged harassment, they responded by promoting her primary harasser to supervisor. When the employee refused to work with him, she was fired, reported the Gazette.
