Portable system connects patients to interpreters

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, November 3, 2006

Miami's Mercy Hospital recently installed a system that helps physicians communicate with non English-speaking patients around the clock. The Language Access Network (www.languageaccessnetwork.com) allows live, one-on-one communication with interpreters using a portable flat screen device that can be installed in any healthcare setting. Patients connect with an interpreter via two-way video. The Language Access Network call center provides interpretation services in 160 languages.
