Vaccine may hold promise in fight against infections

Infection Control Monitor, November 3, 2006

A newly developed vaccine may prove to be the latest weapon to work against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), U.S. researchers reported this week.

The government-funded team of researchers said the vaccine they developed worked against several different strains of the MRSA bacteria in mice, reported the Associated Press. "This finding represents a promising step toward identifying potential components to combine into a vaccine designed for people at high risk of invasive S. aureus infection," said Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which paid for the study.
