Study: Manual PT helps treat lumbar spinal stenosis
Rehab Private Practice Alert, October 25, 2006
In a recent study that looked at patients who suffered from lumbar spinal stenosis, researchers found that manual PT, exercise, and walking helped more than lumbar flexion exercises, walking, and subtherapeutic ultrasound.
The study published in the journal Spine, performed by researchers from Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center, treated half the patients with manual PT for six weeks and the other half with the flexion exercises for six weeks.
A year later, 62% of the patients who underwent manual PT still met the threshold for recovery, while only 41% of the patients who received flexion exercises did.
