CMS to post cost data
E-Health Trend Watch, October 27, 2006
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will make public Medicare payment information for 61 procedures performed in ambulatory surgery centers. The data will be posted on the CMS Web site, which currently shows facility costs and Medicare payment rates for a limited number of services.
CMS is also leading a new six-state quality improvement pilot project designed to give Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries and individuals who are covered by private insurers better quality and cost information. The test sites include Arizona, California, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
