ONC and governors association form e-Health alliance

EHR Connection, October 23, 2006

A new collaboration between the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology (ONC) and the National Governors Association's Center for Best Practices will remove barriers to health information exchange and improve the overall quality of healthcare, reports ONC. ONC and the Governors Association signed a one-year $1.99 million contract to establish the State Alliance for e-Health. The alliance will include HIT experts, industry experts, and representatives of consumers, State and Federal governments. The alliance plans to undertake state-level:

  • privacy and security matters
  • medicinal practice barriers
  • health information organization governance concerns
  • sustainable financial models

The alliance will also research the role of payers as well as the integration of public health and benefit programs.
