Earthquake forces evacuation of Hawaiian hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, October 23, 2006
The strong earthquake that shook Hawaii early Sunday, Oct. 15, forced the evacuation of hospital patients. Kona Community Hospital on the western side of Hawaii Island was evacuated after ceilings collapsed and power was cut off, a hospital spokeswoman told the Associated Press
The hospital evacuated at least 10 acute-care patients across the island to a medical center in Hilo, and temporarily moved about 30 nursing-care patients to a nearby conference center. "We were very lucky that no one got hurt," said spokeswoman Terry Lewis.
