New PT approach attempts to help disabled children

Rehab Private Practice Alert, October 18, 2006

The Kids Center in Louisville, KY, is attempting to treat children with debilitating medical conditions with six- to eight-week intensive PT sessions, according to WAVE3-TV in Louisville.

Children with conditions such as cerebral palsy and spina bifida typically receive PT treatments once a week, every week for years trying to regain normal function.

But therapists at the Kids Center are finding success with more intensive sessions that children attend three times a week for 90 minutes.

Children still perform therapeutic exercises at home after the six- to eight-week treatment to maintain their strength, but the study so far is showing positive results, according to WAVE3-TV.
