Security guard rescued from smoke-filled elevator
Healthcare Security Weekly, October 16, 2006
Firefighters rescued a security guard trapped in a smoke-filled elevator at Claiborne County Hospital in Tazewell, TN earlier this month.
An elevator transformer at the hospital malfunctioned, requiring the evacuation of 41 patients due to heavy smoke, the Middlesboro Daily News reported. Clarence Henard, a security guard at the facility, was trapped in the elevator. Firefighters forced open the elevator after turning off the power to the malfunctioning motor. Henard was treated in the hospital emergency room and later transferred to a Knoxville hospital for further medical treatment.
