Physicians fail to communicate medication information

Physicians often fail to communicate critical elements of medication use and do not regularly describe possible adverse effects of the drugs they prescribe, according to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Another study suggests nearly one in eight patients stop taking some or all of their medications soon after they're prescribed. Patients who quit taking their medications tended to be elderly, single, and less educated.
