Study shows use of e-mail is more common in large practices

EHR Connection, October 2, 2006

Only 24% of physicians reported using e-mail in their practice to communicate clinical concerns with patients in 2004-2005, according to the Center for Studying Health System Change. Despite the small number, that's up from the previous year, when only 20% used e-mail for patient communications.

The survey, which includes information from more than 6,000 physicians, also shows that the use of e-mail is more common in larger practices. For example, 43% of physicians in medical school faculty practices report using e-mail, compared to only 20% of physicians in practices with nine or fewer physicians. However, even practices with more than 50 physicians reported only a 29% e-mail adoption rate. Read more about the study on the Center's Web site.
