Report shows U.S. healthcare gets poor quality scores
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, September 29, 2006
Minneapolis-based MinuteClinic has announced it is the first provider of retail-based healthcare to achieve accreditation for its retail sites from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, according to a release. MinuteClinic locations, which are staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants, offer treatment for common illnesses such as strep throat.
For most customers, MinuteClinic will accept the office visit co-pay indicated on the patient's health insurance card. Most treatments available at MinuteClinic cost between $49 and $59, and all prices are posted outside each of the health care centers, according to the release. MinuteClinic, a subsidiary of CVS Corporation, is one of a new breed of retail healthcare providers competing for market share with hospitals and physician practices.
