Legislation to extend exceptions process hits Congress
Rehab Private Practice Alert, September 27, 2006
With less than four months to go until the exceptions process to the Medicare therapy caps expires, several members of Congress proposed a bill that would extend the process for another year.
Four members of the House of Representatives and five senators sponsored the Securing Effective and Necessary Individual Outpatient Rehabilitation Services (SENIORS) Act (HR 6132/S 3912), according to PT Bulletin Online.
SENIORS would extend the exceptions process for 2007 as Congress continues to discuss whether the caps are working and if there is another way to regulate spending on outpatient therapy.
If the exceptions process is not extended, Medicare Part B beneficiaries will be subject to $1,740 limit on PT and SLP services combined and $1,740 limit on OT services.
