Facility cited for Medicare fraud
LTC Liability Monitor, September 27, 2006
An East San Jose, CA, nursing home was convicted this week of filing false Medicare claims, and its corporate owner agreed to pay $14.7 million to settle a related federal lawsuit instigated by a whistle-blower, reported The Mercury News. Representatives for the nursing home pled guilty to two counts of submitting inflated nursing hours related to residents' reports to Medicare and will pay a $500,000 fine. The conviction follows the $14.7 million settlement over a 2000 whistle-blower lawsuit regarding inflated Medicare reports, according to the News.
