Study provides data on specialty mix, hourly wages at ASCs
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, September 26, 2006
A new study on the financial and operating performance of multi-specialty, licensed, freestanding ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) showed that gastroenterology (GI) represented the highest volume of cases performed at these facilities, and that median total hourly wage rates were $22.10, according to a press release from Informed Healthcare Medica, LLC.
The study's data, published by Informed in the report Multi-Specialty ASC Intellimarker, gathered data from 250 fresstanding ASCs across the United States.
The data revealed that the GI represented 25% of all cases performed in these facilities, generating an average net of $749 per case. Orthopedics had the second highest volume of cases, representing 18% of all cases, with an average net of $2,136 per case.
The study also revealed that the median total hourly wage rates were a reported $22.10, which includes nursing, technical, and administrative staff. The highest median rates were paid in the West, while the Southeast saw the lowest rates, according to the press release.
