Report shows U.S. healthcare gets poor quality scores

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, September 22, 2006

A new report released by the New York City-based health research firm The Commonwealth Fund shows that the U.S. has poor healthcare quality when assessed across key domains of care. The U.S. healthcare system scored an average of 66 out of a possible 100 in 37 national indicators of health outcomes, quality, access, equity, and efficiency, according to a Commonwealth Fund release. The findings show that if the United States improved performance in key healthcare areas, it could save an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 lives, and $50 billion to $100 billion annually, according to the release.
