Class helps fine tune older adults coordination
Rehab Private Practice Alert, September 6, 2006
St. John Siegfried Health Center in Tulsa, OK, is helping older adults avoid falls with a balancing and coordination class that uses everyday activities as its workout, reported the Tulsa World.
PTs and exercise physiologists lead the class, which is an alternative to aquatic therapy and more functional in regards to daily home activities.
The exercises are based on real-life activities, such as walking down stairs, pulling oneself out of a car or bathtub, or playing catch with a rubber ball.
Though the class is considered preventative, participants have found they often see improvement in many of the areas that often cause dangerous falls, according to the Tulsa World.
