Accreditor addresses power systems failures
LTC Liability Monitor, September 20, 2006
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) recently released a new Sentinel Event Alert. Alert #37 aims to prevent adverse events caused by emergency electrical power system failures. Healthcare organizations such as long-term care facilities must plan and implement risk reduction approaches to addressing electrical power failures, reported the JCAHO. The task is the responsibility of the facility engineer, organization management, the risk manager, incident command leaders, and the medical staff.
