Legionnaire's disease found in facilities
LTC Liability Monitor, September 20, 2006
New cases of Legionnaire's disease have popped up in nursing homes in New York and Pennsylvania, according to local reports. At least two cases of Legionnaire's disease, a form of pneumonia, have been confirmed at a nursing home in Otsego County, NY, while the fourth case this year was reported in a Montgomery County, PA, nursing home. The bacteria was found in the New York facility's cooling tower, reported the Associated Press. Tests in the Pennsylvania facility revealed the bacteria was in a common-area bathroom and one resident's apartment, according to 6ABC and Action News in Philadelphia. Both facilities are taking proper steps to rid their buildings of the bacteria, according to news reports.
