Medicare reimbursement hold starts Friday
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, September 20, 2006
The temporary 9-day freeze of Medicare reimbursements to physicians, hospitals, and other providers begins Friday, September 22. The hold will move nearly $5.2 billion in Medicare expenses into the next fiscal year.
As reported in last week's Ambulatory Surgery Regulatory Update, the shifting of reimbursement allowed Congress to avoid a scheduled 4.4% reduction in Medicare payments this year.
Any providers affected by the delayed reimbursement will receive payments in full after October 1, but the federal government will not pay interest.
