Innovation key to consumers becoming 'champions of their own health'
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, September 15, 2006
URAC, a nonprofit organization that promotes healthcare quality through accreditation and certification programs, has released the third in a series of issue briefs that explore ways to empower patients in the era of consumer-driven healthcare, according to a release. The newest issue brief, titled Health Plans Partner with Purchasers in Consumerism Drive, is available with the others at www.urac.org.
The issue briefs examine consumer-driven healthcare from the perspectives of purchasers, consumers, and health plans, according to a URAC release. Alan P. Spielman, the URAC's president and CEO, said in a statement that "consumerism has experienced rapid growth, but overcoming some of these barriers will take ongoing innovation in the marketplace to ensure consumers get the information and tools they need to be comfortable as champions in their own health."
