Television being used as patient satisfaction tool

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, September 8, 2006

A growing number of hospitals are expanding their television offerings to provide health education to patients, according to a September 5 article in Eweek. For example, in October the non-profit Florida health system Health First will begin offering Skylight Healthcare Systems ACCESS service for 700 beds in selected facilities. The San Diego-based Skylight offers a health education module to patients that allows them to order educational videos, according to the article.

The system administers a test that makes sure patients understand the video, and allows them to submit requests for additional information. It also keeps records of which videos have been watched and understood by patients, that hospitals can use as accreditation documentation. Health First executives said that the system will give patients better access to information and give nurses less of a record-keeping burden, according to the article.
