Imaging services would take hit under proposed rules
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, September 1, 2006
The nation's largest medical device organization is working to temporarily halt provisions in the recently proposed hospital outpatient prospective payment system, ambulatory surgery center, and physician fee schedule rules issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that could reduce payment made to imaging services, according to Inside CMS.
Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), along with several other healthcare groups, hopes to rally support for bills that would place a moratorium on the physician reimbursement cuts for some imaging services under Medicare.
"Imaging is vital to the early detection and treatment of illnesses," said Stephen Ubl, AdvaMed President and CEO, in a statement, according to Inside CMS. "[T]herefore AdvaMed will work with Congress to mitigate the effects of the [Deficit Reduction Act] on these crucial technologies."
The bill (H.R. 5704) was introduced in June. A Senate version (S. 3795) was introduced earlier in August.
The reductions are a requirement of the Deficit Reduction Act.
