Bush signs healthcare transparency executive order

President Bush has signed an executive order that forces healthcare providers and insurers across the United States to become more transparent with procedure pricing and reimbursement, The Washington Post reports.

In addition to pricing information, the four agencies must establish programs to measure quality of care and share that information with one another and with program beneficiaries. The order also calls on the agencies to use compatible computer systems and electronic health records to help track a recipient's medical care and condition, whenever possible.
