Medco launches online savings advisor
E-Health Trend Watch, August 25, 2006
Medco Health Solutions, Inc. has launched an online program called Savings Advisor to help consumers save money on prescription drugs. To use the program, members enter the name of a drug, and the program shows them a list of medication options including generic versions, preferred brand-name drugs, and the lowest-cost option based on their personal drug benefit coverage.
Members are given plan-specific information about the comparative out-of- pocket costs at retail and by mail service, both per prescription and on an annual basis, as well as the cost to the plan sponsor so members are aware of the total cost of these medications.
