No flu vaccine shortage this year
LTC Liability Monitor, August 23, 2006
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that more flu vaccine will be produced for the 2006-2007 flu season than for any previous winter, reported the San Francisco Chronicle. This comes as great news to vulnerable people, such as nursing home residents, who may have been effected by vaccine shortages over the last two years. Manufacturers report that the aggregate supply will be 100 million doses. The highest total previously produced was 95 million doses in 2002, although only 83 million doses were distributed, reported the Chronicle.
