Web site lists medical malpractice litigants

Physician Practice Advisor, August 9, 2006

An offshore company has begun working on a Web site-Litipages.com-that lists the names of Florida residents who have filed medical malpractice cases and the names of their attorneys, according to Law.com. The Web site encourages physicians to avoid patients listed in the database, and it encourages plantiffs who have lost cases to sue their attorney for legal malpractice.

A similar Web site launched by Texas doctors in 2004 was shut down after being criticized as unethical for encouraging physicians to turn away patients who have filed malpractice suits. Litipages.com is based on a Caribbean island for protection against potential lawsuits.

The operators plan to make the database available for free starting in July 2007 and eventually hope to publish a database covering medical malpractice cases across the United States.
