Safety with sharps in the lab

Safety with sharps
Sharps containers come in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Frequently they are wall mounted. They should be placed no more than 56 inches from the floor to the top of the container.Sharps containers can also sit on a countertop, and this is usually the way they are found in a physician's office or in an outpatient draw station. If they are on the countertop, they must be moved to the back of the counter against the wall to guard against tipping and spilling. Or they can be placed in a stabilizing container to prevent such an accident.
Sharps containers should never be placed on the floor where there is the potential for access by small children.
