Michigan to debut Web site to help consumers save money

E-Health Trend Watch, August 4, 2006

The Michigan Department of Community Health has debuted a Web site that allows consumers in the state to shop for comparable prices for their prescriptions at all pharmacies in a given ZIP code. Under Michigan law, consumers can ask for, and pharmacists must tell consumers, the price of a brand name or generic prescription drug.

And, according to the state Web site, consumers can save money on prescription drugs by shopping around. Now they can do so on-line, without calling or visiting dozens of pharmacies. Attorney General Mike Cox said an undercover investigation conducted in May revealed drug price disparities among pharmacies.
