NY passes direct access law

Rehab Private Practice Alert, August 2, 2006

New York became the 43rd state to pass direct access legislation when Gov. George Pataki signed the Consumer Access to Physical Therapy bill, the Albany Business Review reported.

Patients will be able to go directly to their PTs without a physician's referral 120 days after Pataki signed the bill.

The law allows patients to see a licensed PT for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first, before getting a referral.
