Specialty hospital construction moratorium expires next week
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, August 2, 2006
Despite the federal moratorium on specialty hospital construction expiring on August 8, industry experts are not expecting a sudden increase in the development of these physician-owned facilities, at least not in Indiana, according to a column in the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Physicians who were interested in building a specialty hospital over the last few years probably did so before the moratorium was enacted by the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, according to the column.
There are about 150 specialty hospitals in the United States.
