Nevada Web site for Canadian drug imports launched
E-Health Trend Watch, July 28, 2006
A Web site that links Nevada residents to Canadian pharmacies authorized to sell them low-priced prescription drugs has launched. The site was developed following final approval in early May of rules for prescription-drug purchases from Canada. The move made Nevada the ninth state to challenge a federal prohibition against drug imports.
Although the federal Food and Drug Administration and Nevada's attorney general have opposed the import program, most state lawmakers, the Nevada State Medical Association, AARP Nevada, and teachers' and public employees' unions back the program. The program aims to help consumers get lower-cost drugs without ordering from unregulated Web sites.
