Rhode Island physicians lead nation in e-prescribing
E-Health Trend Watch, July 28, 2006
SureScripts, an Alexandria, VA-based company that operates an electronic prescription network system, announced that Rhode Island physicians lead the nation in volume of e-prescribing. About 20% of practicing physicians in Rhode Island connected to the system. It was unclear how many of them use the system extensively, however.
The company said that more than 90% of prescriptions in the state are still being handwritten and given directly to patients, who bring them to their pharmacist. Rhode Island became the first state to adopt the electronic system three years ago.
