URAC tracks rise of consumer empowerment
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, July 28, 2006
The URAC, a nonprofit organization that promotes healthcare quality through accreditation and certification programs, has released two new issue briefs tracking the progress and challenges of the consumer-centered era in healthcare, according to a release. The two briefs are titled Consumerism Takes Center Stage As Newest Solution to Health Care's High Costs and Transforming Health Care: A Consumer-Centered Model Takes Hold in the Information Age, and are available at www.urac.org.
The briefs track the transition in the health plan market from a mindset focusing on limited care to the new consumer-centered era that relies on active consumer participation to succeed, according to the release. Both briefs outline the challenges presented by the new, rapidly expanding consumer-oriented market, the release stated.
