Elderly at risk in excessive heat
LTC Liability Monitor, July 26, 2006
Several areas of the country are experiencing major heat waves, resulting in loss of electricity and sometimes fatal health risks. The elderly are at particular risk, reports the Associated Press (AP). More than 50 heat-related deaths in California have been reported, most of the victims were elderly. One nursing home resident was found dead after the air conditioning went out in the facility during 115-degree weather, according to the AP. One lawsuit so far has surfaced from loss of power in the sweltering heat, reported the news source.
